Zirconia Crowns

A zirconia crown is a tooth-shaped restoration made from zirconium dioxide, one of the strongest dental materials available. Zirconia is metal-free, translucent, and mimics the natural light-reflecting properties of real teeth. It provides superior strength and aesthetics compared to traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns.

PFM crowns have a metal base with porcelain fused to the top. Over time, the metal can show through at the gum line, creating a dark shadow. Zirconia has no metal, so it remains beautifully tooth-coloured throughout and ages without discolouration. Zirconia is also 3x stronger than porcelain, making it ideal for back teeth where chewing forces are greatest.

In-house CAD/CAM milling means your crown is designed and manufactured on-site, eliminating reliance on external labs. This speeds up the process and ensures consistent quality.

Dental crowns are recommended for: cracked or fractured teeth, teeth with large cavities, teeth after root canal therapy (which become brittle), teeth with large old fillings, and cosmetically discoloured or misshapen teeth. A crown restores function and protects the remaining tooth structure.

Zirconia crowns are the gold standard for cosmetic dentistry. They're metal-free (perfect for patients with metal sensitivities), extremely durable (10+ year lifespan), and look indistinguishable from natural teeth. They don't develop the dark line that PFM crowns sometimes show along the gum.

Your temporary crown will feel slightly different until your permanent crown is fitted. Once the final crown is cemented, it feels exactly like a natural tooth. You can eat and drink normally immediately. Most patients forget they have a crown within days. Brush and floss as normal — zirconia crowns last longer with proper care.
