What to Eat After Getting Veneers in Ho Chi Minh City
After veneer prep and bonding, your teeth and gums will be sensitive for a few days. The good news: you're in one of the world's best food cities, and HCMC has no shortage of perfect post-veneer meals. Here's your practical eating guide.
Days 1–3 After Prep: Soft Foods Only
Immediately after tooth preparation (when the dentist removes a thin layer of enamel), your teeth will be more sensitive, and your temporaries are fragile. Stick to soft foods that require minimal chewing and aren't too hot or cold.
- Pho — the broth and soft noodles are perfect. Ask for well-cooked noodles (chin chin) if you're eating shortly after the appointment.
- Chao (Vietnamese rice porridge) — the ultimate comfort food and easy on sensitive teeth. Available everywhere.
- Banh cuon (steamed rice rolls) — soft, light, and delicious. Perfect for sensitive days.
- Sinh to (Vietnamese smoothies) — fresh fruit blended with ice and condensed milk. Avoid very cold versions on the day of prep.
- Tofu dishes — found at any Vietnamese restaurant. Silken tofu is essentially resistance-free.
- Soft-boiled eggs — available at most breakfast spots.
Days 4–7 (With Temporaries): Still Being Careful
Temporary veneers are functional but less robust than your permanents. You can eat more normally now, but with some care.
- Avoid biting hard food with your front teeth. Cut fruit and bread into small pieces.
- Avoid sticky foods — caramel, chewy candy, sticky rice — that could pull a temporary loose.
- Avoid very hard foods — nuts, raw carrots, crusty baguettes (ironically common in HCMC — the French left their culinary mark).
- Warm foods and room-temperature drinks are fine. Extreme hot or cold may cause brief sensitivity.
After Final Veneers Are Bonded
Your permanent veneers are much stronger than temporaries. Most patients find sensitivity settles within 1–2 days of bonding. After that, you can eat fairly normally with a few ongoing habits:
- Don't bite hard objects with front veneers — whole apples, hard nuts, ice.
- Cut food into pieces rather than biting through with front teeth.
- Coffee and red wine are fine in moderation — veneers resist staining better than natural teeth.
- Avoid extremely dark-pigment foods (turmeric, beetroot) in the first week while the bonding cures fully.

What to Avoid for the Full Trip
- Hard candy and boiled sweets.

- Chewing pen lids or ice (habits to break permanently with veneers).
- Extremely hot soups immediately after a bonding appointment — let it cool for a few minutes.
