17 Questions to Ask Any Dental Clinic in Vietnam Before You Book

    Richard & Judy Tran·April 2026·7 min read

We've vetted dozens of clinics in Ho Chi Minh City. Some are excellent. Some we'd never send a patient to. The difference often comes down to asking the right questions — and knowing what good and bad answers sound like.

    About Credentials and Training

    • Where did the treating dentist study and train? Look for postgraduate training overseas or at Vietnam's top universities (University of Medicine and Pharmacy HCMC, Hanoi Medical University).
    • Is the clinic accredited by any international body? JCI accreditation is the gold standard. ISO 9001 is a good secondary signal.
    • How many years has the clinic been operating? Five-plus years with consistent patient reviews is a good baseline.
    • Can I see photos of previous cases similar to mine? Any confident clinic will have a portfolio.

    About Materials

    • What brand of porcelain do you use for veneers and crowns? The benchmark names are Ivoclar Vivadent (Liechtenstein), GC Initial (Japan), and VITA (Germany). If they can't name the brand, that's a red flag.
    • Is the lab in-house or external? In-house CAD/CAM milling means better quality control, faster turnaround, and easier adjustments.
    • What implant brand do you use? Nobel Biocare, Straumann, and Osstem are the gold standards. Avoid unbranded or unknown implant systems.
    • What type of veneer do you recommend for my case — and why? A good dentist will explain the clinical reasoning. Vague answers are concerning.

    About the Process

    • Do you offer a digital smile design (DSD) or trial smile before preparation? Non-negotiable for veneers. If not, walk away.
    • Will I get temporary veneers or a temporary bridge while permanents are being fabricated? Reputable clinics always provide temps.
    • How many appointments will I need, and over how many days? Get a clear timeline before you book flights.
    • What happens if I need an adjustment after returning home? A good clinic will have a clear protocol — either a local partner dentist or a clear refund/redo policy.

    About Technology

    • Do you have a CBCT scanner on-site? Essential for implants; useful for complex cases.
    • Do you use digital impressions or traditional putty? Digital impressions (iTero, 3Shape) are more accurate and more comfortable.
    • What sterilisation equipment do you use? Autoclaves are standard. Ask about their sterilisation protocol.

    About Warranties and After-Care

    • What warranty do you provide in writing? Our clinics offer 2–10 years for veneers and crowns, including implants.
    • What does the warranty cover — materials only, or also labour? Ensure re-treatment is included, not just replacement materials.
    • Who do I contact if I have a problem after returning home? You want a direct line to the treating dentist or clinic manager.

Red Flags to Walk Away From

    • Clinics that can't name their implant brand or porcelain supplier.
    • No digital smile design for veneer cases.
    • Pressure to pay a large deposit before consultation.
    • Unusually low prices with no clear explanation — quality has a floor.
    • No before-and-after portfolio or patient testimonials.
    • Vague or dismissive answers to direct questions.
    • No clear warranty terms in writing.
