Clear Aligners in Vietnam 2026: Cost, Timeline & What to Really Expect
Clear aligners have become one of the most requested procedures we're asked about — and one of the most satisfying results we get to see. Patients who've spent years self-conscious about crowding, spacing, or bite issues leave Vietnam with a straight smile and money left over. Here's everything you need to know before you go.
What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners are a series of custom-made, removable plastic trays that gradually move your teeth into the desired position. Each tray is worn for one to two weeks before moving to the next in the series. Unlike traditional braces, they're nearly invisible, removable for eating and cleaning, and don't involve metal brackets or wires.
The treatment is suitable for mild to moderate orthodontic corrections — crowding, spacing, minor bite issues, and relapse from previous orthodontic treatment. Severe skeletal misalignment or complex bite problems typically still require traditional braces or orthognathic surgery.
What Do Clear Aligners Cost in Vietnam?

Which Clear Aligner Systems Are Used in HCMC?
The most common systems you'll encounter at reputable Ho Chi Minh City clinics:
- Invisalign (Align Technology, USA): The global market leader with the largest clinical research base. Best for complex cases. Our partner clinics are certified Invisalign providers.
- ClearCorrect (Straumann Group): A strong second-tier option with excellent clinical outcomes and slightly lower cost. Widely used at mid-tier clinics.
- zMILE / local lab aligners: In-house or locally fabricated aligner systems. Can be excellent when designed by experienced orthodontists — and a lot cheaper. Best for mild to moderate cases.
- Spark Aligners (Ormco): A newer premium system with high-clarity material. Available at some top-tier HCMC clinics.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Clear aligners work best for specific types of orthodontic issues. During your initial consultation, your orthodontist will take a 3D scan of your teeth and assess your case. Here's a general guide:
- Good candidates: Mild to moderate crowding, spacing between teeth, slightly rotated teeth, relapse from previous orthodontic treatment, mild overbite or underbite.
- May need traditional braces instead: Severe crowding requiring tooth extraction, significant bite discrepancy, large gaps, teeth that need substantial rotation or vertical movement.
- Not suitable for aligners: Growing children and teenagers (jawbone still developing), patients with severe gum disease, or teeth with very short clinical crowns that won't grip the aligner properly.
- The honest assessment: A reputable orthodontist will tell you if aligners aren't right for you. We've seen clinics oversell aligners for complex cases that needed braces. We won't let that happen to our patients.
The Process: What Happens at Each Appointment
- Appointment 1 — Consultation & digital scan: Your orthodontist examines your teeth, takes a 3D iTero or similar digital scan, and designs your treatment plan. You'll see a digital simulation of your tooth movement before committing.
- Appointment 2 (same visit or next day) — Attachments & first aligner: Small tooth-coloured resin buttons (attachments) are bonded to specific teeth to help the aligner grip and move them precisely. Your first aligner is fitted.
- Progress check (if staying 2+ weeks): If your treatment plan has multiple stages, a progress check confirms teeth are tracking correctly before you take your remaining aligners home.
- Take-home aligners: You receive all your remaining aligner sets — labelled and sequenced — to continue treatment at home. Clear instructions on when to change trays.
- Remote monitoring: Our partner clinics offer app-based remote monitoring so your orthodontist can track your progress after you return home.
- Final retainers: Once treatment is complete, fixed or removable retainers hold the result. These can be made at the clinic or by your local dentist using records from HCMC.
How Long Do You Need to Stay?
This is the question that surprises most patients — because the answer is shorter than they expect.
The initial in-clinic phase (scan, treatment planning, attachments, first aligner) takes 2–3 appointments over 3–5 days. After that, you take your aligners home and complete the treatment yourself — changing trays every 1–2 weeks as instructed.
A typical 24-aligner treatment means the active phase lasts 24–48 weeks, most of which is done from home. The clinic involvement is front-loaded into your Vietnam stay. For mild cases, 5–7 days is sufficient. For complex cases requiring more clinical oversight, 7–10 days gives you more flexibility.
This makes aligners one of the most travel-friendly procedures we offer — you do the hard part in Vietnam and finish at home.
Wearing Your Aligners: The Reality
Clear aligners only work if you wear them. The clinical requirement is 20–22 hours per day — meaning you remove them only to eat, drink (anything other than plain water), and clean your teeth.
Patients who treat aligners like braces — wearing them consistently — get textbook results. Patients who remove them frequently for social occasions and forget to put them back end up extending treatment or getting suboptimal results.
We tell every aligner patient the same thing before they commit: if you're not prepared to wear them consistently, this is not the right treatment for you. If you are, the results are outstanding.
What Happens If My Teeth Aren't Tracking Correctly?
Occasionally teeth don't move exactly as planned — a situation called "non-tracking." It's manageable when caught early. Our partner clinics use remote monitoring apps that allow the treating orthodontist to assess your progress via photos taken at home.
If non-tracking is detected, additional "refinement" aligners are made to correct the deviation. Most Invisalign and ClearCorrect treatments include unlimited refinements within the treatment plan. This is one of the reasons we recommend premium systems for moderate and complex cases — the clinical support infrastructure is better.
The risk of non-tracking is higher when patients skip aligner changes, don't wear their trays for the required hours, or lose aligners. Follow the protocol and your results will follow.
Aligners vs Veneers: Which Is Right for You?
We get asked this often, especially from patients whose primary concern is the appearance of slightly crooked teeth. Here's the honest comparison:
Aligners move your natural teeth into the correct position. The process takes months, requires consistent compliance, and produces a natural result that you maintain with a retainer. Your teeth remain structurally intact.
Veneers reshape the appearance of your teeth without moving them. The process takes 10–14 days, requires minimal effort from the patient, and can simultaneously address colour, shape, and alignment. However, they require permanent enamel removal and replacement every 15–20 years.
Our general advice: if your teeth are healthy and the concern is purely alignment, start with aligners. If you want to address colour, shape, and alignment simultaneously — and you're committed to veneers as a long-term investment — veneers may be the more efficient solution.
We always discuss both options openly at consultation. The right answer depends on your specific teeth, timeline, and expectations.
